Tommy Butler is a small business owner, former Greeley City Councilor, and native Coloradan running to flip a seat in the Colorado House this fall. As a city councilor, Tommy has fought for critical infrastructure improvements and funding for affordable housing in his community. He’s ready to take his advocacy to the state level, where he is committed to strengthening public schools, improving public infrastructure, supporting economic development, and ensuring Colorado remains affordable for working families for years to come.

District 50 is a true battleground currently represented by a Republican incumbent who won the last election by fewer than 600 votes. With the DLCC’s support, Tommy is well-positioned to flip this seat in November and help Democrats expand their majority in the Colorado House.

2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in Colorado and establish a supermajority in both chambers of the state legislature.

Colorado Democrats won a trifecta in 2018 when they flipped the state Senate blue and have since made impressive strides in improving the state’s quality of life, including legislation to expand access to affordable housing and health care, protect the environment, strengthen public education, and support working families.

This year, Democrats need to gain three seats in the Colorado House and just one in the Senate to establish a supermajority in each chamber. This would allow constitutional amendments to be placed on the ballot without Republican support – a huge step for democracy on issues such as voting rights and reproductive freedom.
