While Trump says “I don’t care”, the DLCC is Laser-Focused on the Midterms

Donald Trump had three words for the upcoming midterms in November:

 “I don’t care.”

Whether it’s his unnecessary, taxpayer-funded ballroom or failed, toxic restoration of the Reflecting Pool, it’s clear Trump is causing as much distraction for voters as he can from the growing Democratic momentum on the ground – where the DLCC is busy connecting with Americans and recruiting state candidates at record levels across the country.

This is not surprising coming from an administration dead set on restricting voter access and intimidating states in handing over election powers to the most corrupt White House in history. 

Meanwhile, the DLCC’s Target Map highlights the once-in-a-generation opportunity to build state Democratic power and capture new majorities, supermajorities, and governing trifectas by flipping Republican districts blue and electing state legislators who will be the firewall against the Trump administration’s recklessness.

As November nears, candidate recruitment is continuing to surge across state legislative races in battleground, blue, and red territory as we prepare for our most ambitious midterm strategy ever. We are surpassing recruitment targets earlier than ever this year and on track to challenge more than 300 GOP-held target districts this November. The DLCC’s work is laying the foundation for a historic November as we prepare for the biggest gains at this ballot level in two decades. 

While Trump-endorsed candidates flounder in the states, state Democrats are building ground and have already flipped 30 seats since 2025,  only a fraction of the  seats we are fighting for in November. The DLCC is harnessing this momentum to launch our Top 10 Races to watch each month leading up to Election Day – putting Trump and his MAGA state partners on watch for a massive blue wave in 2026 and beyond.

Republicans have successfully flipped zero state legislative seats since Trump was elected. Voters are living under the GOP’s toxic agenda for the country, and they hate it. The contrast is clear: Democrats are on the side of freedom, working to protect fundamental rights like access to the ballot box, while Republicans try to silence voters and rewrite the Constitution.

Our multi-year strategy continues for the 2026 midterms, built on the heels of the DLCC’s strong research and voter outreach efforts including every state on our Target Map, and shoring up grassroots momentum in many others. Our state Democratic leaders are crucial to our mission. They pass bold policies that make Americans’ lives better, like universal free child care for New Mexico families, protect our democracy, and combat voter suppression across America’s statehouses.
