About Aaron

Aaron Gutierrez is an attorney, former public defender, and fourth-generation Puebloan running to defend a Democratic seat in the Colorado Senate this fall. Aaron’s family came to Pueblo to work in the fields and steel mill, and it’s where he was born and raised. Aaron believes that effective representation starts with meeting with neighbors and listening to their needs. If he is elected, Aaron will be a thoughtful advocate for Colorado’s working families on issues such as public health and safety, environmental protections, and the affordability crisis.

With a gain of just one seat needed to establish a Democratic supermajority in the Colorado Senate, Aaron is stepping up, with the support of the DLCC, to defend this battleground district in 2026.

Colorado

2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in Colorado and establish a supermajority in both chambers of the state legislature.

Colorado Democrats won a trifecta in 2018 when they flipped the state Senate blue and have since made impressive strides in improving the state’s quality of life, including legislation to expand access to affordable housing and health care, protect the environment, strengthen public education, and support working families.

This year, Democrats need to gain three seats in the Colorado House and just one in the Senate to establish a supermajority in each chamber. This would allow constitutional amendments to be placed on the ballot without Republican support – a huge step for democracy on issues such as voting rights and reproductive freedom.

The DLCC is all in to support candidates in the most competitive battleground districts in Colorado, candidates where national grassroots support could give them the edge they need to win tough races and expand Democratic power in Colorado.
