Senate: Democratic Majority

House: Democratic Majority

Colorado is on the DLCC’s 2026 Target Map.

In 2018, Colorado Senate was one of the DLCC’s top targets. We flipped the chamber and turned Colorado blue; Democrats have been delivering an ambitious agenda for Coloradans ever since.  Now, 2026 is our opportunity to solidify Democratic power in the Colorado General Assembly so the state can continue serving as a firewall against the Trump administration. Democrats need to gain just 3 House seats and 1 Senate seat to build supermajorities in each chamber.

Since flipping the Senate, Democrats in Colorado have delivered for the 6 million people in their state. They’ve protected their constituents’ rights like abortion and acted on gun safety while tackling economic issues. As a result of Trump’s cost-of-living crisis, Colorado Democrats banned price gouging on groceries, and passed legislation to target junk fees to crack down on wage theft from working families.

Meet the DLCC’s Colorado Target Races

To build durable power in both chambers of the legislature, the DLCC has designated a slate of Colorado Target Race candidates running in some of the state’s most competitive and consequential districts. These candidates represent critical opportunities to strengthen Democratic influence in Colorado by creating supermajorities in both chambers.

The DLCC is investing early in the candidates and districts where the data shows Democrats can make the biggest gains. Learn more about the races we’re following below:

DLCC Board Member

Senate President James Coleman

Senate President James Coleman is a consensus builder whose leadership has been instrumental in winning durable Democratic majorities in Colorado with a steady record of delivering for the people. With a background in community activism and advocating for non-profits, he’s made it his mission to expand economic opportunity. Senate President Coleman recently became the state’s second-ever Black state Senate president and has since led Colorado’s upper chamber to spur economic growth and make robust investments in education to support the growth of Colorado’s workforce. His ability to deliver on promises to make life more affordable is more important than ever as the Trump administration slashes programs that families have earned and rely on.
