Brian Nathan

Sen. Brian Nathan is a U.S. Navy veteran and union leader from Tampa Bay, running for reelection to the Florida Senate this fall. Earlier this year, Brian stepped up to run in a special election for the state Senate to fight for Florida’s working families. He narrowly won the race despite being outspent 10-to-1 by his Republican opponent. Brian is ready to serve a full term, and if he’s reelected, he will work to lower the cost of living, create good-paying jobs, and ensure every child in the state has access to quality public education.

Brian won a March special election in District 14 by just over 400 votes. Now he’s back, with the DLCC’s support, to defend this battleground district, serve a full term in the Florida Senate, and help Democrats break the GOP supermajority in the chamber.

2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in Florida and break toxic supermajorities in both the state House and Senate.

Across both chambers, Democrats only need to flip 9 seats to end the GOP supermajorities, block veto overrides, and check the reckless adoption of Trump’s extremist policies at the state level. Florida Republicans have turned a blind eye to the affordability crisis, cut Medicaid access for seniors, and demolished economic opportunity for Floridians.

The DLCC has been on the ground working with Florida Democrats to win key races, recruit competitive candidates, and identify the districts where nationwide grassroots support will have the most impact in 2026. Since 2020, we’ve highlighted 47 Florida state legislative candidates in our Target Races program, including Emily Gregory, who won a stunning special election victory in March to represent HD-87, flipping the district that includes Mar-a-Lago.

Progress is possible in Florida, but we have to keep up the momentum. We cannot afford to miss this moment to put Florida Democrats on the strongest trajectory to build back power after almost 30 years of one-party rule. The DLCC is all hands on deck to support Florida Democrats committed to building a brighter future for the Sunshine State.
