About Lucia
Lucia Baez-Geller is a former public school teacher, the daughter of immigrants, and a member of the Miami-Dade County School Board running this fall to flip a seat in the Florida House. Lucia was inspired at a young age by her parents’ resilience and dedication as they worked hard to build a life in America. She was the first in her family to graduate from college, and Lucia used her education to become a teacher herself and advocate for increased educational opportunities for others. Lucia is a champion for safer, fully-funded public schools, access to a nutritious diet, affordable housing, health care, and a lower cost of living for Florida’s working families.
A highly competitive race to represent District 106 is taking shape, and Lucia, with the DLCC’s support, is ready to step up to the challenge to flip this seat and help Democrats gain ground in the Florida House.
Florida
2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in Florida and break toxic supermajorities in both the state House and Senate.
Across both chambers, Democrats only need to flip 9 seats to end the GOP supermajorities, block veto overrides, and check the reckless adoption of Trump’s extremist policies at the state level. Florida Republicans have turned a blind eye to the affordability crisis, cut Medicaid access for seniors, and demolished economic opportunity for Floridians.
The DLCC has been on the ground working with Florida Democrats to win key races, recruit competitive candidates, and identify the districts where nationwide grassroots support will have the most impact in 2026. Since 2020, we’ve highlighted 47 Florida state legislative candidates in our Target Races program, including Emily Gregory, who won a stunning special election victory in March to represent HD-87, flipping the district that includes Mar-a-Lago.
Progress is possible in Florida, but we have to keep up the momentum. We cannot afford to miss this moment to put Florida Democrats on the strongest trajectory to build back power after almost 30 years of one-party rule. The DLCC is all hands on deck to support Florida Democrats committed to building a brighter future for the Sunshine State.
