Maine is on the DLCC’s 2026 Target Map.

2026 is a historic opportunity to protect and expand the Democratic majorities in the Maine House and Senate. Keeping Maine blue will allow Democrats to keep making progress for over one million Mainers.

Since we flipped the Senate in 2018, Maine Democrats have protected reproductive rights, passed paid family and medical leave, and tackled affordability in housing, health care, and child care. Not only will a Democratic-led legislature continue to provide a bulwark against the chaos from the Trump administration, but we cannot afford to miss this moment to put Maine Democrats on the strongest possible trajectory ahead of redistricting in 2030.

Maine Democrat Triumphant in Special Election

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post lauded tonight’s Democratic special election win in the Maine state Senate. On Tuesday, Maine Democrat Susan Deschambault won the special election in Senate District 32 with 57 percent of the vote. This victory comes on the heels of a series of special election successes in Kentucky and strong Democratic performances in competitive regions in last fall’s legislative general elections in Virginia and New Jersey.

Democratic Senator David Dutremble resigned in late January to focus on his health. A special election will be held on March 29 in Senate District 32, which encompasses parts of York County, including the towns of Biddeford, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport.
