About Tom

Tom Wieck is a born-and-raised Iowan and multi-sector business leader running to flip a seat in the Iowa Senate this fall. Tom’s 25 years of experience across the aerospace, defense, health care, and agriculture industries helped him hone his ability to make organizations more efficient and effective, a unique skill set he is ready to put to work to honestly and effectively represent his constituents if he is elected. Tom will work hard to lower costs for Iowans, support strong schools and local health care, and ensure rural and working communities have a voice in Des Moines.

With the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program, Tom is mounting a strong campaign for what could be one of the most competitive 2026 legislative races in Iowa. His race is key to building Democratic power in the Iowa Senate and helping to prevent a Republican supermajority in the chamber.

Iowa

Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.

After nearly a decade of full GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.

In 2026, defending these hard-won Senate seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.

The DLCC is all hands on deck to keep up our momentum.
