About Catelin
Sen. Catelin Drey is a mom from Sioux City running for reelection to the Iowa Senate this November. Last year, Catelin claimed a stunning upset victory against a MAGA opponent in a special election that broke the GOP supermajority in the chamber. Now, Catelin is committed to continuing to put working families first after years of Republican policies have made it increasingly difficult to raise a family in the state.
In her 2025 special election, Catelin beat the odds and flipped her district with the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program by running a strong campaign and connecting with voters. In a district previously won by Donald Trump, Catelin carried the vote by double-digit margins, and this year she’s ready to defend her seat and keep Republicans from reclaiming a supermajority in the Iowa Senate.
Iowa
Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.
After nearly a decade of GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in deeply Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.
In 2026, defending these hard-won seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.
The DLCC is all hands on deck to keep up our momentum.
