The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning the fight for America’s state legislatures.
About Andrew
Andrew Fitzgerald is a skilled tradesman, automation technician, and native Iowan running to protect a Democratic seat in the Iowa House this fall. Throughout his life, Andrew has stayed connected to the working class community that shaped him. He believes Iowa needs leaders who understand what it means to earn a paycheck, raise a family, and fight for a better future. Andrew is running to bring honest leadership, common sense, and real-world experience to the State Capitol. He knows Iowa families are facing real challenges, and he believes they deserve real solutions from leaders focused on workers, families, and communities.
Andrew is stepping up as District 98’s Democratic representative retires from the Iowa House. In 2024, she was elected by just 45 votes, and Andrew, with the backing of the DLCC’s Target Races program, is ready to take on a tough fight to defend this battleground district in November.
Iowa
Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.
After nearly a decade of full GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.
In 2026, defending these hard-won Senate seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.
The DLCC is all hands on deck to keep up our momentum.
