Jennifer Kirkman is an attorney and business owner from Burlington running this fall to flip a seat in the Iowa House. As a lawyer with over 20 years of experience, Jennifer fights for people in their most difficult moments. She’s watched as lawmakers in Des Moines ignore vulnerable Iowans and is running for state representative to be their voice in the legislature. She’s committed to fighting honestly and tirelessly for access to affordable health care, strong rural economies, a lower cost of living, and the rights of every Iowan.

This year, District 99 could be one of the most tightly contested battlegrounds in Iowa. Jennifer is ready to capitalize on the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program to flip her district blue and help Democrats build power in the Iowa House.

Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.

After nearly a decade of full GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.

In 2026, defending these hard-won Senate seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.
