Heather Sievers

Heather Sievers is an Iowa native, registered nurse, and family advocate from Altoona running to flip a seat in the Iowa House in November. From a young age, Heather dedicated her life to volunteering and community service, including assisting in homeless and women’s shelters, at an HIV/AIDS clinic, at food banks, and providing therapy to children with severe behavioral disorders and physical disabilities. Heather is dedicated to fighting for strong public education, improving accessible and affordable health care, and creating livable wages and opportunities for Iowa’s working families. She’s demonstrated her commitment to uplifting all Iowans and will continue working tirelessly on their behalf in the state House if she is elected.

In 2024, Heather mounted a strong campaign with the backing of the DLCC’s Target Races program and came within about 300 votes of victory. Now, she’s back to finish the job and help Democrats build power in the Iowa House.

Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.

After nearly a decade of full GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.

In 2026, defending these hard-won Senate seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.
