About Mike

Mike Tupper is a retired law enforcement officer running this fall to flip a seat in the Iowa House. Mike’s 32-year career is defined by service, collaboration, and a deep commitment to community. As Marshalltown’s police chief, Mike emphasized a people-centered approach to public safety, building trust through visible community engagement. Now, Mike is running for the Iowa House in District 52 to bring that same integrity and community-focused leadership to the State Capitol, where he will be a strong, reliable advocate for Iowa’s working families.

This year, District 52 promises to be a true toss-up, with the winner decided by a handful of votes. Mike, with the support of the DLCC, is ready to capitalize on this opportunity to flip a red seat blue and help Democrats gain ground in the Iowa House.

Iowa

Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.

After nearly a decade of full GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.

In 2026, defending these hard-won Senate seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.

The DLCC is all hands on deck to keep up our momentum.
