The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning the fight for America’s state legislatures.
About Matt
Matt Robinson is a carpenter, union member, and lifelong Dubuque resident running this fall to flip a seat in the Iowa House. Matt began his career in the building trades after graduating from high school, learning through hard work, long days, and firsthand experience what it means to build schools, hospitals, homes, and communities across Iowa. Matt is deeply aligned with working Iowans and understands the struggles they face every day. If he is elected, he will focus on protecting workers’ paychecks and expanding labor rights, fully funding Iowa’s public schools, and bringing down the cost of living.
The 2026 race to represent District 72 is highly competitive, but with the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program, Matt is well-positioned to help Democrats gain ground in the Iowa House by flipping this seat from red to blue.
Iowa
Iowa is emerging as a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.
After nearly a decade of full GOP control, a series of DLCC-backed special election victories in 2025 — including wins in Republican districts — signaled a shift in the political landscape. These victories not only broke the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate but also proved that, with early investment, Democrats can win even in the toughest terrain.
In 2026, defending these hard-won Senate seats and making targeted gains in the state House will be critical to stopping Republican overreach and restoring balance in the legislature.
The DLCC is all hands on deck to keep up our momentum.
