After two decades of GOP control, 2026 is a historic opportunity to pick up seats in Georgia and build for future majorities. With the support of the DLCC, Georgia Democrats have made gains in the House five elections in a row, picking up nearly 20 seats in total and building momentum as Democrats increasingly run competitive, winning statewide races.
GOP majorities in both chambers have rubber-stamped Trump’s disastrous agenda and made the state ground zero for the spread of election misinformation and attacks on voting rights– including calling special sessions of the legislature to redistrict and gerrymander the maps in Georgia to try to cling to power.
To continue building power, the DLCC has designated a slate of Target Race candidates in Georgia running in some of the state’s most competitive and consequential districts. These candidates represent critical opportunities to gain seats, strengthen the Democratic base for elections ahead, and lay the groundwork for future majorities.
The DLCC is investing early to support these candidates and others in districts where the data shows Democrats can make the biggest gains. By supporting strong campaigns, expanding the map, and competing everywhere possible, we’re shaping a brighter future for all Georgians.

Adam Cleveland is an attorney and small business owner from Johns Creek running to flip a seat in the Georgia House this fall.
In June, the GOP-controlled Georgia legislature announced last-minute before their special session that they won’t advance their scheme for new, rigged maps following the gutting of the Voting Rights Act. Georgia already has some of the most gerrymandered maps in the country, but this pause on further GOP gerrymandering efforts provides a real opportunity for state Democrats to build durable power.
Georgia is a top priority for the DLCC, with both chambers on our historic 2026 Target Map. The DLCC has been building Democratic power in the state for a decade, and we are poised to send more state Republicans packing this November.
