Senate: GOP Majority

House: GOP Majority

Georgia is on the DLCC’s 2026 Target Map.

After two decades of GOP control, 2026 is a historic opportunity to pick up seats in Georgia and build for future majorities. Over the last several cycles, DLCC has helped Georgia Democrats win many key races and make gains that weaken the GOP’s majorities.

Democrats have made gains in the Georgia House for 5 consecutive cycles and we’re ready to do it again.

GOP majorities in both chambers have rubber-stamped Trump’s disastrous agenda and made the state ground zero for the spread of election misinformation and attacks on voting rights – the stakes couldn’t be higher to capitalize on the historic opportunity to make gains in both chambers. In the face of an aggressive gerrymander, Georgia Democrats will continue to fight to make progress to lower costs and expand opportunities for working families.

Redistricting Update

Gov. Brian Kemp has called a June special session to redraw both congressional and state legislative maps ahead of 2028 following the Callais ruling. There is no prohibition on redrawing congressional districts mid-decade, and the maps are passed with a simple majority as regular legislation, subject to gubernatorial veto.

The DLCC is targeting both Georgia chambers in 2026 to build potential majorities on the path to 2030. Democrats are just 10 seats away from a House majority and 6 seats away from a Senate majority.

Maine Democrat Triumphant in Special Election

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post lauded tonight’s Democratic special election win in the Maine state Senate. On Tuesday, Maine Democrat Susan Deschambault won the special election in Senate District 32 with 57 percent of the vote. This victory comes on the heels of a series of special election successes in Kentucky and strong Democratic performances in competitive regions in last fall’s legislative general elections in Virginia and New Jersey.
