2026 is a historic opportunity to build a Democratic supermajority in the New Mexico House. Democrats need to gain three House seats to build a supermajority and build on the progress their Democratic trifecta has made for New Mexicans.
New Mexico Democrats are leading the nation in ambitious legislation that makes their constituents’ lives better – from universal free child care to protecting New Mexicans’ health care when Congress attacked it.Â
Since flipping the chamber in 2016, Democrats have built durable power and are on the verge of creating a supermajority. With DLCC Board Member and New Mexico Speaker of the House Javier MartĂnez leading the House’s efforts, the DLCC is confident about Democrats’ odds in the chamber.
The DLCC’s Target Races represent some of the most competitive and consequential state legislative contests in the country.

DLCC Finance Chair
Speaker Javier Martinez broke barriers long before he joined the legislature, becoming the first in his family to graduate from

college. He fulfilled his immigrant family’s American Dream, attaining a law degree, organizing in his community, and eventually fighting for New Mexico’s vulnerable families in the legislature. His upbringing and firsthand understanding of the challenges immigrant families face continue to drive his commitment to expanding opportunities for New Mexicans. Without Speaker Martinez, New Mexico may not have one of the most generous and inclusive tax credits for working families. As the states protect against the worst of the Trump administration, he is quickly becoming a leader to watch.
