About Sarah

Rep. Sarah Silva is an organizer from Doña Ana County running this fall for reelection to the New Mexico House. Growing up in a farming community in the Mesilla Valley of southern New Mexico instilled in her the values of honesty, integrity, hard work, and optimism. Sarah has applied these values while working tirelessly to organize successful campaigns to hold big banks accountable, protect families from foreclosure, raise the local minimum wage, protect the environment, and support young immigrants applying for legal status.

In 2024, Sarah was elected by just 158 votes, and 2026 is shaping up to be another competitive race. With the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program, Sarah is ready to defend her hard-won seat and help Democrats build a stronger majority in the New Mexico House.

New Mexico

2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in New Mexico and establish a Democratic supermajority in the New Mexico House.

New Mexico’s Democratic trifecta has shown the nation what is possible under bold leadership. In 2025, New Mexico became the first state to pass universal childcare, a landmark policy that will save the average family $12,000 per child a year. Democrats also stepped up and protected health care for New Mexicans after Republicans in Congress slashed Medicaid funding.

New Mexico has been on the DLCC’s Target Map in recent cycles. Despite a windfall of GOP spending totaling over $13M in 2022, state Democrats maintained their majority and protected it in 2024. In partnership with DLCC Board Member and New Mexico Speaker of the House Javier Martínez, we’ve built durable power and are on the cusp of creating the strongest Democratic majority in 30 years.

With only three additional seats needed to build a Democratic supermajority in the New Mexico House, 2026 is a critical year to rally behind candidates running in the most competitive races across the state.
