About Raul

Raul Turrieta is a United States Navy veteran, dedicated public servant, and community leader from Silver City running this fall to flip a seat in the New Mexico House. Raul has a long career in public service, including four terms as County Assessor, and is a well-known voice in the community as the host of popular radio shows, a dedicated youth sports coach, and a frequent host of local nonprofit fundraisers. Now, Raul is ready to take his advocacy to the next level by running to become a state lawmaker committed to fighting to uplift every member of his community.

District 39 has constantly been the site of highly competitive state House elections, and this year, Raul is in a perfect position, with the support of the DLCC, to flip this seat blue and help Democrats establish a stronger majority in the New Mexico House.

New Mexico

2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in New Mexico and establish a Democratic supermajority in the New Mexico House.

New Mexico’s Democratic trifecta has shown the nation what is possible under bold leadership. In 2025, New Mexico became the first state to pass universal childcare, a landmark policy that will save the average family $12,000 per child a year. Democrats also stepped up and protected health care for New Mexicans after Republicans in Congress slashed Medicaid funding.

New Mexico has been on the DLCC’s Target Map in recent cycles. Despite a windfall of GOP spending totaling over $13M in 2022, state Democrats maintained their majority and protected it in 2024. In partnership with DLCC Board Member and New Mexico Speaker of the House Javier Martínez, we’ve built durable power and are on the cusp of creating the strongest Democratic majority in 30 years.

With only three additional seats needed to build a Democratic supermajority in the New Mexico House, 2026 is a critical year to rally behind candidates running in the most competitive races across the state.
