About Sarah

Sarah Pounds, a lifelong Oakland County resident, is running to flip a seat in the Michigan House in November. Sarah has served on Oakland County housing and community development boards to expand housing access and advocate for working families. She believes lawmakers should work for and be accountable to everyday people, and Sarah is ready to bring practical experience, fresh ideas, and a working parent’s perspective to Lansing. Her priorities include strong public schools, stable jobs with a livable wage, and access to affordable health care, child care, and housing.

District 54 is one of the best opportunities for a red-to-blue flip in Michigan, and Sarah, with the DLCC’s support, is stepping up to the challenge to help Democrats regain power in the Michigan House.

Michigan

Michigan is one of the most critical battlegrounds in the country.

In 2022, Michigan Democrats flipped both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in over a decade, delivering a Democratic trifecta and passing historic legislation that improved the lives of working families across the state.

In 2024, Republicans narrowly retook the Michigan House — but with Democrats remaining as the majority in the state Senate, the path to a trifecta is within reach in 2026.

With a one-seat Democratic majority in the Senate and a clear path to reclaim the House, strategic investment in these races will determine whether Democrats can restore full control and continue delivering results for Michiganders.
