Jan Maino

Jan Maino, President of the East Jackson School Board and mental health professional, is running to flip a seat in the Michigan House this fall. Jan has served on her local school board for over a decade and has fought to ensure every student and teacher has the resources they need to succeed. As a therapist, Jan has seen firsthand how members of her community are affected when the system fails them, and she’s determined to continue using her leadership position to help fix those systems. If elected, Jan will work to expand access to health care, improve public education, and support Michigan’s working families.

Jan, with the DLCC’s support, is ready for a highly competitive election to help Democrats win back the Michigan House and move the needle towards lasting progress in Michigan.

Michigan is one of the most critical battlegrounds in the country.

In 2022, Michigan Democrats flipped both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in over a decade, delivering a Democratic trifecta and passing historic legislation that improved the lives of working families across the state.

In 2024, Republicans narrowly retook the Michigan House — but with Democrats remaining as the majority in the state Senate, the path to a trifecta is within reach in 2026.

With a one-seat Democratic majority in the Senate and a clear path to reclaim the House, strategic investment in these races will determine whether Democrats can restore full control and continue delivering results for Michiganders.
