The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning the fight for America’s state legislatures.
About Sean
Sean Carlson is a lifelong Michigander, veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, and a retired Air National Guardsman from Commerce Township running to defend a key Democrat-held seat in the Michigan Senate in November. Sean is a dedicated public servant who has focused on modernizing services, creating good-paying jobs, and ensuring local government works efficiently while working as an Oakland County Deputy Executive. If elected, Sean will be a strong voice in Lansing for working families while fighting for increased affordability.
District 13’s Democratic senator is retiring from the legislature, leaving an open seat that Sean is ready to defend. With the DLCC’s backing, Sean is in an excellent position to win this race and help Democrats expand their majority in the Michigan Senate.
Michigan
Michigan is one of the most critical battlegrounds in the country.
In 2022, Michigan Democrats flipped both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in over a decade, delivering a Democratic trifecta and passing historic legislation that improved the lives of working families across the state.
In 2024, Republicans narrowly retook the Michigan House — but with Democrats remaining as the majority in the state Senate, the path to a trifecta is within reach in 2026.
With a one-seat Democratic majority in the Senate and a clear path to reclaim the House, strategic investment in these races will determine whether Democrats can restore full control and continue delivering results for Michiganders.
