About Sherry
Sherry Giebler, a Kansas native and retired school counselor from Olathe, is running to flip a seat in the Kansas House this fall. With a 30-year career in Kansas schools, Sherry is a dedicated champion for public education. She is running to stand up to Republicans in Topeka who continue to shortchange children’s futures by withholding much-needed school funding. If Sherry is elected, she will fight to improve access to quality public education, affordable health care, and sustainable economic growth for working families in Kansas.
House District 14 is a true toss-up district where legislative elections are often decided by the slimmest of margins, including in 2024 when the Republican candidate won by less than 500 votes. With the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program, Sherry has a strong chance of flipping this seat blue and helping expand Democratic power in the Kansas House.
Kansas
This year brings a historic opportunity to build Democratic power and break the Republican supermajority in the Kansas House.
The DLCC has been on the ground in Kansas for years, capitalizing on every opportunity to build momentum and chip away at Republican control of the state’s legislature. This year, we’ve identified the most competitive House districts and are bringing national attention to candidates with the best chances of flipping Republican-held seats or protecting key Democratic footholds.Â
Kansas House Democrats only need to gain five seats to break a supermajority Republicans have used to override Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly and enact deeply unpopular legislation, such as a recent attempt to restrict voting rights ahead of the midterm in November. Breaking the supermajority is a critical first step towards progress for Kansas.
This year’s elections are a once-in-a-decade opportunity to begin turning the tide in Kansas and in red states across the country. A brighter future is possible for all Kansans, and the DLCC is ready to support our candidates every step of the way.
