The DLCC’s 2026 Target Map pinpoints where Democrats must focus our attention and resources in 2026 to strengthen our firewall in state legislatures and counter the MAGA extremism of Donald Trump and the Republican Congress in Washington, D.C.

Battlegrounds
These are the state legislative chambers where Democrats must defend or win control in 2026. They’re in our most competitive states where majorities will be determined by the slimmest of margins, including multiple chambers where a single seat could decide the party in power.

The DLCC works with Democrats in all fifty states to support candidates in competitive districts. These states are where we have the best chance in 2026 to build power and pick up seats by voting out Republicans.

A Republican supermajority in just one chamber of a state’s legislature can obstruct vital progress and override the governor’s veto power, often without accountability. These are the states where Republican supermajorities are either incredibly vulnerable or were recently broken and cannot be allowed to reassemble:
