How the DLCC is Meeting the Moment with Only 100 Days Until Election Day

Today, July 26th, marks just 100 days until Election Day on November 3rd.

2026 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shift the balance of power in our state legislatures – and we’re meeting this moment head on. While the DLCC has launched the most expansive target map in our history: 42 chambers across 27 states and a $50 million plan to flip key seats, secure new Democratic majorities, and build long-term governing power nationwide, Republicans are mobilizing quickly and pouring historic amounts of resources into these races.

As Republicans escalate their unprecedented efforts to rig the maps in red states and silence voters to protect their meager House majority, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Democrats to build significant power in state legislatures. The fight for civil rights, fair elections, and political representation that reflects the will of the voters lies in statehouses – so does the path to long-term power for Democrats to win Congress and the presidency. Hundreds of districts are at play, and we have 100 days to flip as many seats as possible across the map.

Our Target Race program and Top 10 Races highlight some of the most critical races we’re supporting, and we plan to amplify over 500 candidates slated ahead of the 2026 midterms. These races can tilt critical state legislative power in favor of Democrats with just a handful of votes. Electing Democratic majorities not only leads to dramatic policy changes that make their constituents’ lives better – these are also the officials who play a critical role in the redistricting process and draw the maps candidates run on.
