About Shea

Asm. Shea Backus is an attorney, small business owner, and third-generation Nevadan from Las Vegas running for reelection to the Nevada Assembly in November. Shea has always had a passion for serving others, from her time volunteering in law school to her pro bono legal representation for abused and neglected children. As a legislator, Shea is motivated by that same passion, and she has been an invaluable champion for Nevada’s working families on issues such as access to affordable housing, health care, and public school funding.

In 2022 and 2024, Shea ran winning campaigns in extremely competitive elections as a DLCC Target Race candidate. This year, she’s ready to keep up the fight to defend her district once again and help Democrats build a supermajority in the Nevada Assembly.

Nevada

2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power in Nevada and establish a blue supermajority in the state Assembly.

Since flipping both chambers of the Nevada legislature in 2016, Democratic leadership has brought sweeping progress to the state, including universal free school meals for students, minimum wage increases, and civil rights protections for women and LGBTQ+ Nevadans.

The DLCC has been on the ground in Nevada cycle after cycle, supporting candidates in the most competitive races to protect Democratic majorities in the state Senate and Assembly.

This year, Democrats in the Nevada Assembly need to gain just one seat to secure a supermajority, bringing them closer to passing key legislation even if a Republican governor attempts to veto it.

With so much work still needed to ensure a bright future for the state, we can’t afford to lose an inch of ground to Republican extremism in Nevada.
