New Mexico
Senate: Democratic Majority
House: Democratic Majority
Leading the fight for progress in New Mexico.
2026 is a historic opportunity to build a Democratic supermajority in the New Mexico House. Democrats need to gain 3 House seats to build a supermajority and build on the progress their Democratic trifecta has made for New Mexicans.
In the face of federal GOP attacks, New Mexico Democrats have stepped up to protect their constituents. During the 2025 federal government shutdown, Democrats passed a budget that helped blunt the impact of federal cuts to food banks and food pantries. Then, in 2026, Democrats passed legislation to fully replace cuts to federal health care programs and protect care for New Mexicans.Â
The DLCC will continue to partner with state Democrats to build power and move progress forward in New Mexico.
Speaker Javier MartÃnez Speaks At A 2025 DLCC Press Conference
DLCC Finance Chair
Speaker of the House Javier MartÃnez
Speaker Javier Martinez broke barriers long before he joined the legislature, becoming the first in his family to graduate from

college. He fulfilled his immigrant family’s American Dream, attaining a law degree, organizing in his community, and eventually fighting for New Mexico’s vulnerable families in the legislature. His upbringing and firsthand understanding of the challenges immigrant families face continue to drive his commitment to expanding opportunities for New Mexicans. Without Speaker Martinez, New Mexico may not have one of the most generous and inclusive tax credits for working families. As the states protect against the worst of the Trump administration, he is quickly becoming a leader to watch.
