Kansas
Senate: GOP Supermajority
House: GOP Supermajority
Kansas is on the DLCC’s 2026 Target Map.
2026 is a historic opportunity to break the GOP supermajority in the Kansas House. Democrats need to gain just 5 House seats to break the GOP supermajority.Â
Republicans in Kansas have used their supermajority to override numerous vetoes from Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, including passing multiple anti-abortion laws and repeatedly attacking the LGBTQ+ community. Breaking the supermajority would help uphold a Democratic governor’s veto if a Democrat is elected. In the event of an incoming Republican governor, breaking the GOP supermajority would give Democrats the power to prevent harmful constitutional amendments from getting on the ballot.
The DLCC will be targeting competitive races across the state and sharing more info on DLCC Target Races in Kansas soon.
