Iowa

Senate: GOP Majority

17D
33R

House: GOP Supermajority

33D
67R

Iowa is on the DLCC’s 2026 Target Map.

2026 is a historic opportunity to prevent a GOP supermajority in the Iowa Senate and break the supermajority in the Iowa House.  Democrats need to protect all 17 seats in the Iowa Senate to prevent a GOP supermajority and gain 1 seat in the Iowa House to break the GOP supermajority.

In 2025, Iowa Democrats flipped two Senate seats that Trump had won by double digits, with DLCC Spotlight Candidate Catelin Drey’s win breaking the GOP supermajority. In December 2025, DLCC Spotlight Candidate Renee Hardman overperformed by double digits in her special election and prevented the GOP from reclaiming their supermajority.

The DLCC will be targeting competitive races across the state and sharing more info on DLCC Target Races in Iowa soon.
