IN THE HEADLINES: State Democrats Dominate Special Elections During Trump’s State of the Union

State legislative Democrats flipped 26 seats since Trump’s election, while Republicans have flipped none

WASHINGTON — State legislative Democrats have been defying the odds and clinching decisive victories in special elections across the country – and last night was no exception amid Trump’s State of the Union address. Last night, Democrats won by over 30 and 60 points in their bid to preserve the one-seat majority in the Pennsylvania House, while also defending a critical seat to protect the slim majority in the Maine House. 

That builds on Democrats’ impressive down-ballot wins since Trump was elected, which have fueled “GOP angst” about their midterm prospects. The DLCC is carrying our winning strategy to more specials on the horizon – including in Florida and Michigan – and to our ambitious 27-state target map this November.
