In 2022, Michigan Democrats flipped both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in more than a decade. For two years a Democratic trifecta brought unprecedented progress to the state, until Republicans eked out a narrow majority in the state House in 2024. 

The Democratic victories of 2022 came as a result of years of work from the DLCC and our allies in the state to establish on-the-ground infrastructure to build power in Michigan, despite intense opposition from Republicans. These efforts minimized the impact of the right-wing push to undermine Michigan’s Democratic majorities in 2024, and put Democrats in a strong position going into the midterms. 

2026 is a historic opportunity to win back full control of the Michigan legislature and deliver a Democratic trifecta in this ultracompetitive battleground state. Protecting Democrats’ one seat majority in the Michigan Senate and taking back the state House are top priorities for the DLCC this year, and we are making strategic investments and supporting candidates in some of the most competitive races in the country.
