Target Race Launch: DLCC Announces Slate of Targets in Missouri
2026 is a historic opportunity to build Democratic power and break the GOP supermajority in the Missouri General Assembly
WASHINGTON—Today, the DLCC announced 16 Target Races in the Missouri General Assembly as Democrats aim to break the GOP supermajority in both chambers. Missouri Republicans have repeatedly used their unchecked power in the legislature to silence voters, including rigging their congressional maps last year and trying to force through changes to the state constitution. Democrats need to flip just five seats, three in the House and two in the Senate, to break Republicans’ unchecked power in the General Assembly.
The DLCC is working directly with the Missouri House and Senate caucuses to deliver support and resources for data, research, and direct voter contact. 2026 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shift the balance of power across the country, and Missouri is a top target for the DLCC to break two GOP supermajorities. With less than 100 days until Election Day, the DLCC is executing on our historic Target Map and strategy.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“While Missourians face the very real challenges of rising costs and affording basic necessities, Republicans in the legislature have used their power to silence voters, attack civil liberties, and undermine workers’ protections. After years of attempting to strip voters of their rights, the Missouri GOP is in for a rude awakening. Democrats are just five seats away from breaking the toxic supermajorities in both chambers and gaining the power to push back against these extreme and harmful policies. The DLCC has thrown our support behind a strong group of candidates who are mounting strong campaigns and speaking to the real issues voters care about. In the final stretch of the cycle, we are working to help these candidates win their races and put an end to the unchecked GOP power in the Missouri General Assembly.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leads the national strategy to secure Democratic power in our state legislatures. We are the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states who are advancing Democratic values and standing up to the dangerous MAGA agenda every single day. Over the last decade, our work has flipped 10 new chamber majorities. Those new majorities have ensured Democrats in state legislatures are positioned to protect our democracy and fundamental rights, while addressing the high cost of living and advancing opportunities. The DLCC’s national strategy and target map continue to pinpoint the most efficient paths to Democratic power across all 50 states.Â
