Laura Murvartian is a small business owner, philanthropist, and nonprofit board member from the Atlanta area running to flip a seat in the Georgia Senate. Laura’s campaign to represent her community is the next chapter in a life committed to improving Georgians’ lives. Laura is a dedicated advocate for increasing access to affordable health care, strengthening public education, protecting the democratic process, and creating economic opportunities for families. She’s running because she believes that silence and inaction mean acceptance, and she refuses to accept less than what hardworking Georgia families deserve. 

Laura is challenging MAGA extremist Shawn Still, who was indicted for his role in helping Donald Trump try to steal the 2020 election. With the support of the DLCC, she’s ready to flip this seat and expand Democratic power in the Georgia Senate.

Georgia has seen unified Republican control of the governor’s office and legislature since 2005, but continued efforts from the DLCC and Georgia Democrats have led to victories in both chambers of the Georgia legislature, steadily chipping away at the state’s red majorities.

Over the last several cycles, the DLCC has helped Georgia Democrats make gains in both chambers of the legislature, including nearly 20 seats in the state House over the past decade.

In 2026, building Democratic power in Georgia is more important than ever. A competitive gubernatorial race this year could result in another GOP governor, meaning Democrats in the Georgia legislature would remain as the only line of defense against an extreme MAGA agenda.
