About John
Sen. John Fredrickson is a mental health professional and educator from Omaha running for reelection to the Nebraska Legislature in November. John strongly believes that Nebraska is at its best when the opportunity to prosper is open to all. This means strong public schools, quality, affordable healthcare, and flourishing local economies. As a legislator, he’s committed to ensuring all Nebraskans grow and prosper from evidence-based policies. John has helped pass bills to improve telehealth benefits, protect survivors of assault and abuse, address food insecurity, increase suicide prevention efforts, and expand access to higher education.
John won his race in 2022 by fewer than 100 votes, and this year, with a strong campaign and the support of the DLCC, he’s well prepared for another highly competitive election.
Nebraska
2026 is a critical opportunity to protect progressive footholds in the Nebraska legislature and ensure Republicans cannot rig the system to secure themselves a critical Electoral College vote in presidential elections.
Nebraska is home to the smallest state legislature in the country, with just 49 state senators, and is one of only two states with a split electoral vote system. This has given Democratic presidential candidates a path to pick up an Electoral College vote in a historically red state.
Efforts to eliminate Omaha’s “Blue Dot” in presidential elections jeopardize the nonpartisan balance in Nebraska, but a gain of just one additional seat would give Democrats the power to stop an extremist push for a winner-take-all system that would rig the rules in Republicans’ favor.Â
This year, the stakes in Nebraska couldn’t be higher. The DLCC has identified the races that will have the most impact on state and national power, and now is the time to rally together and support progress in Nebraska.
