SuAnn Witt

SuAnn Witt is a school board member and lifelong Nebraskan running in November to flip a seat in the Nebraska Legislature. After 35 years with Omaha Public Schools, SuAnn transitioned to the Nebraska Department of Education, where she worked for 13 years overseeing the application process and managing state funds. SuAnn’s career of service has given her a deep understanding of the needs of Nebraska’s working families and the experience to effectively advocate for them in the state legislature if she wins her election this fall.

SuAnn is ready to capitalize on the support of the DLCC to win this highly competitive seat and add a strong voice for positive change in Lincoln.

2026 is a critical opportunity to protect progressive footholds in the Nebraska legislature and ensure Republicans cannot rig the system to secure themselves a critical Electoral College vote in presidential elections.

Nebraska is home to the smallest state legislature in the country, with just 49 state senators, and is one of only two states with a split electoral vote system. This has given Democratic presidential candidates a path to pick up an Electoral College vote in a historically red state.

Efforts to eliminate Omaha’s “Blue Dot” in presidential elections jeopardize the nonpartisan balance in Nebraska, but a gain of just one additional seat would give Democrats the power to stop an extremist push for a winner-take-all system that would rig the rules in Republicans’ favor. 

This year, the stakes in Nebraska couldn’t be higher. The DLCC has identified the races that will have the most impact on state and national power, and now is the time to rally together and support progress in Nebraska.
