Cindy Johnson

Cindy Johnson is an audiologist from Omaha running to protect a key Democratic-aligned seat in the Nebraska Legislature this fall. Cindy spent 15 years of her career at Omaha Children’s Hospital evaluating and treating the hearing needs of Nebraska’s children and advocating for their educational needs. She now practices part-time with dedicated appointments to serve veterans. Cindy also serves on her local Learning Community Coordinating Council, is a former President of the Nebraska Speech Language and Hearing Association, and teaches Hearing Science to speech language pathology students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her career has been dedicated to improving the lives of Nebraskans, and if elected, she will continue to fight for working families in her state.

District 10 is a key district for the balance of power in the Nebraska Legislature and, with the support of the DLCC, Cindy is ready to protect this seat in what will likely be a competitive race.

2026 is a critical opportunity to protect progressive footholds in the Nebraska legislature and ensure Republicans cannot rig the system to secure themselves a critical Electoral College vote in presidential elections.

Nebraska is home to the smallest state legislature in the country, with just 49 state senators, and is one of only two states with a split electoral vote system. This has given Democratic presidential candidates a path to pick up an Electoral College vote in a historically red state.

Efforts to eliminate Omaha’s “Blue Dot” in presidential elections jeopardize the nonpartisan balance in Nebraska, but a gain of just one additional seat would give Democrats the power to stop an extremist push for a winner-take-all system that would rig the rules in Republicans’ favor. 

This year, the stakes in Nebraska couldn’t be higher. The DLCC has identified the races that will have the most impact on state and national power, and now is the time to rally together and support progress in Nebraska.
