DLCC’s Top 10 Races

There are thousands of state legislative races on the ballot this year – here are the 10 that matter most right now.

Whether it is winning new majorities, flipping seats, or putting Democrats into a stronger position to fight, these are the races that matter most in the 2026 midterms. 

Power in our state legislatures is critical for everything from affordability and health care to redistricting and our voting rights.  To stop Donald Trump and his MAGA allies, we must win the races that matter most to securing power in statehouses all across the country. 

The DLCC’s strategy uses the latest data to identify and focus on the most important races.

Every single week, the DLCC is getting new data and intelligence as we focus our attention and resources to have the biggest possible impact in November. The DLCC builds new majorities one seat at a time and that means doing the research to understand where each race fits on the eventual path to power. 

In total, we are targeting more than 500 districts this year as the DLCC is built to support our candidates and programs from start to finish. This work includes mobilizing support when it is most critical for a specific race and that’s where our community of supporters comes in.

The candidates below are DLCC’s current recommendations for the candidates that most urgently need your support right now:

Edgar Soto is a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, lifelong educator, and community leader running to flip a seat in the Arizona Senate and help Democrats win a majority in the chamber.
