Battleground State
Minnesota is on the frontlines of standing up to the Trump Administration, and 2026 is a historic opportunity to build power and deliver majorities in both chambers in this key state.
The DLCC has already won six majority-deciding special elections in Minnesota this election cycle, and weâre all hands on deck to help fund the strong campaigns and infrastructure needed to reach voters and win both chambers in November to restore a trifecta in the state.
When voters elected a Democratic trifecta in 2022, Minnesota DFLers protected reproductive rights, passed paid leave, and provided free breakfast and lunch for all public school students. Election after election, the DLCC has been on the front lines supporting Minnesota DFLers as they prevent GOP majorities in the most competitive state legislative chambers in the country.
The DLCC will be targeting competitive races across the state and sharing more info on DLCC Target Races in Minnesota soon.

Minnesota House DFL Leader Zack Stephenson and Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy
DLCC Board Member
Leader Erin Murphyâs leadership is shaped by her working-class upbringing, where strong unions and hard work provided stability for her family. She carried those lessons into her career as a nurse and union leader, grounding her approach in service, empathy, and a willingness to negotiate and problem-solve. After struggling to navigate the health system to get her mom the care she needed during her battle with cancer, Murphy was inspired to run for office. She went on to serve for nearly two decades in both the Minnesota House and Senate, being the first person to serve as Majority Leader in both of these highly competitive chambers and driving Democratsâ success in winning back Democratic majorities.
Leader Murphy was first elected to the DLCC Board in 2025.
In Memorium
On Saturday, June 14, 2025 we lost a giant in state politics and a beloved DLCC Board member. Speaker Melissa Hortman was the kind of leader everyone deserves â a selfless fighter who never lost sight of what public service was about. It was an honor of a lifetime to know her, learn from her, and call her a friend.
Melissa mentored and shaped so many leaders, empowered more people in her community to get involved, and inspired the rest of us to stay in the fight no matter how tough things got. She shared the challenges and sugar-coated nothing. She never lost sight of why this all mattered and worked tirelessly to ensure no one else did either.
The wins she delivered for Minnesota families â from paid family medical leave, to protecting reproductive health care, to free school lunches for kids â were hard-fought, and they were done with a humor, humility, and grace that will be irreplaceable in the House chamber.
She was a trusted neighbor, a valued friend, and a deeply respected colleague. She was an incredible mother alongside her husband, Mark Hortman. There are no words to express how much our community will miss her leadership and her relentless optimism for everything that her state and our country could be.
â DLCC President Heather Williams, June 2025
