Republicans currently control the Kentucky Legislature but that hasn’t stopped state Democrats from fighting on behalf of their communities. As the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states, the DLCC is providing the roadmap for building Democratic power across red, blue, and purple states in 2026 and beyond, including in Kentucky.Â
The DLCC will continue to partner with state Democrats to build power in Kentucky.
Special Election Win
In December 2025, DLCC Target Candidate Gary Clemons overperformed by decisive margins to win a special election to the Kentucky Senate and defend a key seat for Democrats.

DLCC Flips 37th Seat From Red to BlueTonight DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post celebrated yet another special election win, this time in Kentucky in a district where Trump got 72 percent of the vote in 2016, making this the biggest red to blue flip so far. Representative-elect Linda Belcher claimed victory in the closely watched special election for House District 49, defeating her Republican opponent with over 68% of the vote.

Maine Democrat Triumphant in Special ElectionWASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post lauded tonight’s Democratic special election win in the Maine state Senate. On Tuesday, Maine Democrat Susan Deschambault won the special election in Senate District 32 with 57 percent of the vote.
