The New York Senate is on the DLCC’s target map as we aim to build a supermajority in 2026
WASHINGTON — Tonight, Democrats swept state legislative special elections across both chambers in New York, with victories for DLCC Spotlight Candidate Jeremy Zellner in SD-61, Erik Bottcher in SD-47, Keith Powers in AD-74, and Diana Moreno in AD-36.
New York is on the DLCC’s target map as we aim to build a Senate supermajority, complementing the existing Assembly supermajority to bolster Democratic power and protect New Yorkers from GOP extremism.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Communities feel the difference when Democrats are at the helm of statehouses, and that’s especially true in the Trump era. As the Trump administration intensifies its attacks and abuses of power, New York state Democrats are on the frontlines of shielding communities from harm while bringing down the cost of living. The stakes couldn’t be higher as we approach a historic opportunity in 2026 to expand Democrats’ influence in state legislatures. The DLCC is working overtime to build majorities across the map that fundamentally shift the state legislative balance of power.”
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
