The Maine House and Senate are on the DLCC’s 2026 target map

WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced Scott Harriman as a Spotlight candidate ahead of his special election for the Maine House on February 24th. Democratic majorities in Maine are working overtime to support working families amid the GOP’s reckless cuts that raise costs and their attacks on health care.

The Maine House and Senate are both on the DLCC’s 2026 target map as we aim to flip GOP seats and build stronger Democratic majorities.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“Maine’s Democratic majorities are standing up for working families and providing a bulwark against the GOP’s agenda to rip away health care and raise costs. Protecting the power Democrats have in the House is critical. While the Maine GOP proudly carries water for Trump and Washington Republicans’ dangerous abuses of power, Mainers are looking for leadership on affordability and health care in the legislature, and that’s what Scott Harriman and Democratic leadership are focused on. Democratic leadership in Maine must be defended, and the DLCC aims to protect and pick up seats at every opportunity in 2026 in this target map chamber.”

Scott Harriman (HD-94) is a public servant and lifelong Mainer running to represent Lewiston in a February special election for the Maine House. Scott is on the ballot in this must-win race because of his deep commitment to improving life for Maine’s working families. If he is elected, Scott will work to bring down the cost of living, expand health care access, and protect the democratic process from right-wing extremism.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
