The Georgia Senate is on the DLCC’s 2026 target map as we work to flip GOP seats
WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced LeMario Brown as a Spotlight candidate ahead of his special election to the Georgia Senate on January 20th. This is a district that Trump won by 22.8 points, but given the substantial overperformance state Democrats clinched throughout 2025, this race is one to watch.
The Georgia Senate was recently added to the DLCC’s target map as we aim to pick up seats and challenge GOP extremism dominating the legislature. Last month, Democratic candidate Eric Gisler won an upset election and flipped a Georgia Senate district that Trump won by double digits in 2024.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“On the heels of an upset win in Georgia last month, the DLCC is bullish on our chances of flipping another tough Trump district in the Peach State this month. This seat shouldn’t be in play, but state Democrats have momentum on their side as voters are casting aside Republicans and opting for candidates like LeMario Brown, who understand the economic pressures that everyday Georgians face. This race could be our first flip of 2026, and we’re only just getting started as we compete on our most expansive target map ever. Republicans have been put on notice that the DLCC is competing everywhere in 2026.”
LeMario Brown (SD-18) is a farmer and small business owner running in a Macon-area special election to flip a seat in the Georgia Senate this January. LeMario is guided by the lessons he learned growing up in a hardworking agricultural family, and now he’s ready to step up as a voice for struggling families across Georgia. His vision includes a lower cost of living, expanded access to health care, and safer communities for all. If LeMario is elected, he will do everything he can to fight for hardworking Georgians.
