DLCC & Colorado Democrats Defeat Another Radical Republican Recall

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and Colorado Democrats have defeated radical Republicans’ latest recall attempt targeting Senate President Leroy Garcia.

“Democrats have just dealt Colorado’s radical Republicans another embarrassing defeat,” said DLCC press secretary Matt Harringer. “While Trump’s crying about impeachment, these right-wingers are actually trying to undo the will of Colorado’s voters because they’re sore losers.”

Senator Garcia was reelected to his second term last year with more than 75 percent of the vote. Undeterred by this breadth of support, Republican activists still moved forward with a recall effort, further proof that the Colorado GOP has few ideas and no path forward after suffering devastating losses in the midterm elections.

Organizers in Senator Garcia’s Pueblo-based district followed the playbook that successfully defended Representative Tom Sullivan and Senators Brittany Pettersen and Pete Lee earlier this year. The DLCC supported Democrats with a grassroots decline-to-sign campaign, and with digital and mail campaigns.

The series of desperate recall attempts included another effort targeting Governor Jared Polis that also ended in an embarrassing defeat. The flurry of baseless recalls has divided state Republicans while drawing the support of radical right-wing groups like the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and the Proud Boys.

“The more Republicans associate themselves with these radical groups, the harder it’s going to hurt them at the ballot box next year,” Harringer said. “Democrats are moving Colorado forward and will win up and down the ballot in 2020.”
