Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Sets Off-Year Fundraising Record

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is announcing it raised almost $2.3 million in April, setting a new record for the largest amount the committee has ever raised in a single off-year month.

“The election cycle is the most important in years — not just because we need to replace Donald Trump — but because state legislatures will draw the redistricting maps we’ll live under for the next decade,” said Jessica Post, executive director of the DLCC. “Our party understands how important state legislatures are to our democracy and these record numbers make it clear Democrats have the momentum heading into the 2019 and 2020 state elections.”

The committee has already raised more than $6 million in the first few months of this cycle, twice as much as it raised in 2009 — and the committee is on track to raise $50 million toward 2020, almost five times the amount it raised a decade ago.

“In 2010, Democrats saw what happens when we take our attention away from state legislatures. We got wiped out and we’re still paying the price under gerrymandered maps,” said Post. “Led by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, Democrats are prioritizing state legislatures in a way we’ve never seen before. We’re going to flip states blue across the country and ensure the next decade’s legislative maps and drawn fairly.”
