The DLCC is leading the national strategy to put Democrats on offense around redistricting and recently expanded our 2026 target map to level the playing field & build power

WASHINGTON — Maryland House Democrats just passed legislation to implement new maps to counter Republicans’ gerrymandering efforts across the country.

Maryland is the latest in a growing list of blue states that’ve taken action to counter Republicans’ power-grabbing schemes. State Democrats in California and Virginia have passed legislation to counterbalance GOP schemes in Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri, limiting GOP gains in their desperate attempt to hold onto the U.S. House majority.

State legislatures are on the frontlines of shaping maps and our democracy, and the DLCC’s expanded target map represents the best opportunities to level the playing field and put Democrats on offense ahead of 2030.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“With Florida Republicans poised to pass toxic new maps soon, Maryland Democrats are rising up to provide real leadership and protect our democracy. As the Trump administration’s federal overreach escalates with each passing day,  it’s never been more important to empower Democratic majorities in the states to shield communities from harm and deliver real solutions. Redistricting battles will be fought and won in state legislatures, and winning on our 2026 target map is nonnegotiable in the fight to protect democracy.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
