Target Race Launch: DLCC Announces Slate of Targets in New York Senate

The New York Senate is one seat away from a Democratic supermajority

WASHINGTON—Today, the DLCC announced six Target Races in the New York Senate, where Democrats need to flip just one seat to reach a supermajority. Securing a supermajority in both chambers will allow Democrats to overcome Republican obstruction and ensure that all options are on the table when it comes to redistricting.

The DLCC is working directly with the New York Senate Democratic Caucus and Target Race candidates to deliver support and resources for data, research, and direct voter contact. 2026 is a historic moment for Democrats to expand power in state legislatures across the country, and the DLCC has the strategy to capitalize on this opportunity.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“Since taking control of the legislature, New York Democrats have used their strong majorities to cut costs for families and defend their constituents from Republicans’ war on freedom. Building a Senate supermajority to complement the existing Assembly supermajority will help Democrats continue to go on offense on redistricting and keep delivering for families. With DLCC Board Chair and New York Senate President Pro Tempore and Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins leading the Senate’s efforts, the DLCC is confident about Democrats’ ability to deliver a Senate supermajority this November.
