Democrats Clinch Majority-Deciding Michigan Special Election

Chedrick Greene’s majority-defending win builds momentum as the DLCC competes in Michigan and across the country this November

WASHINGTON — Democrat Chedrick Greene just delivered the latest blow to Republicans by winning the last major special election before the midterms and defending the Democratic majority in the Michigan Senate. The DLCC announced this special as a Target Race earlier this year and delivered a $250K investment in the Michigan Senate to support both this special and groundwork for November.

This victory lays the foundation for Democrats to restore a trifecta in Michigan in November by flipping four seats in the House and defending the Senate majority. As the last major special election of the cycle, tonight’s win reinforces Democrats’ undeniable momentum heading into a historic midterm election for the DLCC. Winning new majorities on the DLCC’s Target Map takes on new importance in the wake of last week’s Callais decision, which gutted the Voting Rights Act and opened the floodgates to Republican gerrymandering that weakens the voting power of communities of color.
