In a political earthquake, Democrats win legislative control of Republican stronghold

WASHINGTON — In a consequential victory, Democrats have flipped both chambers of the New Hampshire General Court, winning control of the legislature for the first time this decade. The GOP has wielded its power in New Hampshire to roll back voting rights, including introducing legislation to pursue mid-decade redistricting at Trump’s request. Winning control of the legislature in New Hampshire was a top priority for the DLCC this cycle and voters delivered a clear message in this battleground state: they are ready for new leadership in their statehouse, led by Democrats and their vision for the state’s future. 

The DLCC has worked in New Hampshire for years to position Democrats to break the Republican chokehold on the legislature. On what is shaping up to be a record-breaking night for Democrats across the country, New Hampshire proved what is possible when we invest at the state legislative ballot level—solidifying durable Democratic power to protect voting and civil rights, oversee elections, and shape redistricting maps. With this win, Democrats have created a new base of power and reshaped the political landscape ahead of 2028.
