BREAKING: DLCC Flips Georgia House for First Time in Two Decades
Democrats break Republican trifecta, win chamber for the first time since 2002
WASHINGTON — In a monumental victory, Georgia Democrats flipped the House, winning the chamber for the first time since 2002. Democrats’ new control of the Georgia House is a political earthquake, breaking a long-held GOP trifecta and reshaping the political map. Building Democratic power in Georgia was a top DLCC priority, and tonight we outperformed expectations. Republicans have spent decades rigging themselves into power and overruling voters’ will, but their failed agenda finally caught up with them tonight as voters chose a new way forward.
The DLCC has been working in Georgia for years, using a multi-cycle strategy to build back Democratic power in deeply gerrymandered districts, one election at a time. On a record-breaking night across the country, tonight’s tipping point to secure a new majority was the result of strong candidates, strong programs, and investments to build durable Democratic power for 2027, 2028, and beyond.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“In a stunning victory, Georgia Democrats and the DLCC have reshaped the political map by flipping the Georgia House. Republicans have spent decades weaponizing their power to rig maps in their favor, attacking Georgians’ civil and reproductive rights, and using their state as a launchpad for Trump’s election denialism. By flipping the House, voters gave Democrats the most seats in two decades and a critical level of power alongside newly elected Governor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Tonight, Georgia Democrats shattered Republicans’ grip on the state and are ready to chart a new path forward.
“The DLCC has spent years working with Georgia Democrats to chip away at the GOP’s entrenched power seat by seat. By building upon every victory, investing crucial resources, and supporting strong candidates, we flipped this pivotal chamber and made history. Georgia is proof that investing in long-term, multi-cycle strategies can create new inroads for durable Democratic power. The path to the presidency and federal power runs through our statehouses, and this hugely consequential victory demonstrates the importance of investing in state legislative races.”
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leads the national strategy to secure Democratic power in our state legislatures. We are the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states who are advancing Democratic values and standing up to the dangerous MAGA agenda every single day.Â
