In a stunning victory, Democrats win control of critical battleground state

WASHINGTON — In a historic victory, Democrats have flipped both chambers of the Arizona State Legislature, creating a Democratic trifecta for the first time since the 1960s. Winning control of the legislature in Arizona was a top priority for the DLCC this cycle, after years of chipping away at the entrenched Republican majorities. In one of the most pivotal battleground states, Arizona voters delivered a mandate for a new era, led by Democrats and their vision for the state’s future. 

The DLCC has worked in Arizona for years to position Democrats to break Republicans’ decades-long grip on the legislature. The Arizona State Legislature is home to some of the nation’s most extreme MAGA Republicans, becoming a bastion of election denial and efforts to overturn the will of the voters. On a record-breaking night for Democrats across the country, Arizona proved what is possible when we invest at the state legislative ballot level—solidifying durable Democratic power to protect voting and civil rights, oversee elections, and shape redistricting maps. With this win, Democrats have created a new base of power and remade the political landscape ahead of 2028.
